Summer is a perfect time to get more active. Only 1 in 5 adults in the United States is actually getting enough physical activity to do any good: it’s time to change that statistic.
Sure, exercise will help you lose weight, but you should know that physical activity can also:
- reduce the risk of heart disease
- reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes
- reduce the risk of some cancers
- strengthen bones and muscles
- improve mental health
And it’s FREE!
In my practice, I have had many patients be able to decrease, stop or not even start prescription medications because of an adequate exercise regimen. Exercise is by far my favorite prescription. Adults should get at least 2.5 hours of moderate aerobic exercise weekly and children/adolescents should get at least 1 hour of moderate vigorous aerobic exercise daily. Take advantage of our great California weather to get out and walk, run, garden, dance or PLAY!!!
